Ministry of Education SELO 3 Programme

Running from September 2021 – May 2022

Kia raranga ngā ara rangatira

Weaving together the threads of pedagogical leadership

This SELO Professional Learning kaupapa will support kaiako and kaiārahi to effectively engage with and draw on the rangatiratanga present in each member of the learning community.

This will be achieved through:

  • Unpacking Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how the whakapapa of the education system in Aotearoa informs our understanding and the enactments of pedagogical leadership
  • Exploring te ao Māori models of leadership
  • The enactment of tīkanga and whakaaro Māori present in our guiding documents, including Te Ara Poutama, NELP, Te Tātaiako, Educational Leadership Capability Framework, Tapasā and Te Whāriki
  • Building strategies for engagement with mātauranga present in their local hāpori

Kaiako play a crucial role in strengthening language, culture and identity and building on the ‘funds of knowledge’ that mokopuna and their whānau bring to the service.

“The wellbeing of each child is interdependent with the wellbeing of their kaiako, parents and whānau.” (Te Whāriki)
