The story of when Atlas received his first profile book. Sue is an infant and toddlers kaiako at Te Kohungahunga o Matangi Awhio/Auckland Point Kindergarten in Whakatu/Nelson. Sue’s interest in ECE was sparked by her involvement with the kindergarten her chidlren attended. Encouraged by the kaiako there, Sue undertook study as a distance student, and graduated with a Bachelor of Teaching and Learning (Early Childhood) in 2010 from the University of Canterbury.
Sue’s first teaching placement was in an infant and toddlers setting – and this ignited a desire to continue to work with this age group. Sue started at Matangi Awhio less than a month after it opened; the week after her final assignment was posted!
“I have been involved with infants and toddlers for most of my life in one role or another, and am very excited about where I am now. I am passionate about the provision of excellent quality care and education for the very youngest of our citizens. I consider myself very fortunate to be part of a committed team who share this passion. My teaching practice, like those of my colleagues, is grounded in respect and relationships, and is steeped in Maoritanga. I am passionate about ongoing learning; for tamariki whānau, and kaiako. Our literacy research journey is leading us all to explore literacy in increasingly wider ways, and is visible through our Learning Stories. Excitingly, whānau are increasingly engaging in their children’s learning. It is a time of growth for us all.”
